Roach: "If he doesn't fight Manny now (Mayweather) should retire."

Hall of fame Trainer has some interesting lines for Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr.  Coach Freddie Roach said that the undefeated boxer should do his talking in the ring if he is the best boxer.  

"Mayweather has to put up or shut up now or move out of the country," Pacquiao's trainer Roach said. "Let's face it. Manny is way above him at this point."

With Pacquiao winning against  "Tijuana Tornado" Antonio Margarito would that bring the Mayweather fight closer? Many people think that it makes it more harder for it made the American Champion feared more.

"Because I remember when he was ducking (Antonio) Margarito and he wouldn't fight him either," said Roach.  

The four time trainer of the year said that Manny stuck to the game plan last Saturday (Sunday in Philippine time)   and that made the fight for Team Pacquiao.  Roach also said that "If he doesn't fight Manny now (Mayweather) should retire."

The next fight should be with Mayweather, that is what the boxing fans and the world wants.  At this point, we still haven't heard from Floyd.  

When Manny Pacquiao was asked about future bout with Mayweather, this is what the REAL pound-for-pound king has to say "If the fight happens, it happens.  I don't need him, I happy with my achievement in boxing."  Yup, it is better than Floyd's achievement.  Just because his undefeated doesn't mean his the best.

Pacquiao vs Margarito: Antonio Margarito to undergo Surgery

Antonio Margarito, the Mexican super welterweight beaten badly by Manny Pacquiao on Saturday night, suffered a fractured orbital bone and was to have surgery Tuesday in Texas, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum told The Associated Press on Sunday.

Margarito, who lost in a lopsided, 12-round decision, was taken directly to the hospital via ambulance after the fight to have cuts to his face examined.

That is when the injury to his eye socket was discovered, and he remained in the hospital Sunday, Arum said.

Margarito had skipped the postfight news conference at the request of the fight doctor and people in his camp, an unusual move for such a big fight.

Legendary Pacquiao trainer Freddie Roach was critical of the late-round decision-making of Margarito's corner, saying they should have forced a stoppage.

"There was no way I was going to quit. I'm a Mexican, we fight until the end," Margarito said.

Pacquiao (52-3-2, 38 KOs), giving away both pounds and inches, won the 150-pound, WBC super welterweight belt to extend his record with a title in an eighth weight class -- two more than Oscar De La Hoya.

"He's a very tough guy," Roach said of Margarito (38-7, 27 KOs). "I was surprised how tough he was. He has the worst corner. They probably ruined his career by not stopping the fight."

Pacquiao turned Margarito into a bloody and nearly blind fighter with a dizzying array of punches, dominating from the opening rounds on at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

The beating was so thorough that the congressman from the Philippines turned to referee Laurence Cole several times in the 11th round, imploring him to stop the fight.

"I told the referee, 'Look at his eyes, look at his cuts,'" Pacquiao said. "I did not want to damage him permanently. That's not what boxing is about."

It went on, though, even though Margarito had no chance to win.

"I can't believe that I beat someone this big and this strong," Pacquiao said. "It's hard. I really do my best to win the fight."

Pacquiao moved up in weight yet again to take on Margarito, a natural welterweight with a reputation for ruggedness in the ring.

And rugged he was, though he took a beating all night long at the hands of a faster and seemingly more powerful opponent.

Pacquiao won every round on one scorecard, 120-108, and was ahead 119-109 and 118-110 on the other two. The Associated Press had it a 120-108 shutout.

Man dies of heart attack while watching Pacquiao fight

MANILA, Philippines - A 64-year-old grandfather failed to finish the megabout between Manny Pacquiao and Antonio Margarito after suffering a heart attack in the middle of the fight.

Victim Dominador Lacida, a pastry vendor, died while watching the fight in Cagayan de Oro City Sunday afternoon.

His relatives said Lacida had finished cooking pastry early to watch the fight with neighbors. Witnesses said Lacida suddenly fell off his seat and started trembling.

The victim was immediately brought to hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

Relatives said they are now worrying about Lacida's burial expenses, noting that the grandfather was the sole breadwinner of the family.

Pacquiao may not need Mayweather anymore

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP)—Manny Pacquiao was more concerned with the set list for his upcoming concert than he was with Floyd Mayweather Jr.

The fight every boxing fan wants to see may never happen, but Pacquiao had a firm date to sing at Lake Tahoe before heading home and taking up his more formal duties as a congressman in the Philippines.

All was well early Sunday after Pacquiao cemented his claim as boxing’s best by giving Antonio Margarito such a brutal beating that he went to the hospital.

Margarito remained in the hospital on Sunday and promoter Bob Arum said the boxer has a broken right eye socket and will have surgery Tuesday in Texas.

About the only problem for Pacquiao was that he couldn’t sign autographs for adoring fans because he had trouble holding a pen.

“My hands are swollen and they really hurt,” Pacquiao said.

Small wonder, considering Pacquiao had just spent 12 rounds bouncing those hands off of Margarito’s head. He hit Margarito from almost every angle and with stunning accuracy, closing both his eyes and bloodying his face while dominating every round of their WBC light middleweight title fight.

It was a virtuoso performance, though not terribly surprising since boxing fans have come to expect that from the little superstar. Size never mattered on a night when speed ruled and the crowd of 41,734 at Cowboys Stadium roared at every combination.

Pacquiao’s mother got so caught up in the excitement that she briefly fainted as the fight ended. Most everyone else stayed upright, watching in delight as Pacquiao finished off a night’s work by kneeling down in a neutral corner and saying a prayer of thanks.

The lopsided win gave Pacquiao his eighth title in as many weight classes in a remarkable career that began with him fighting as a light flyweight as a teenager in the Philippines. He was in charge the entire way, battering Margarito so badly that Pacquiao was pleading with the referee to stop the fight in the 11th round so his opponent wouldn’t have to take any more punishment.

“I told the referee, ‘Look at his eyes, look at his cuts,”’ Pacquiao said. “I did not want to damage him permanently. That’s not what boxing is about.”

No sooner had the judges handed in their tallies, though, than Pacquiao was answering questions about the one fighter he has yet to beat. Mayweather may be the only credible opponent left for Pacquiao, though promoter Bob Arum talked after the fight about a possible bout with Shane Mosley or a third fight against Juan Manuel Marquez.

But the congressman made it clear he was tired of the politics of boxing when it comes to the one fight that matters most.

“I don’t want to talk about Floyd Mayweather,” Pacquiao said. “If there’s a decision I’ll take it to Bob Arum.”

If Mayweather spent $65 to watch the pay-per-view he may be even more reluctant to fight Pacquiao than before. He also has legal problems stemming from an altercation with the mother of his children that could interfere with a possible fight in the spring, but Arum believes that if Mayweather really wants to fight then the bout could be made.

Margarito was supposed to be a rugged test for Pacquiao, if only because he was so much bigger. But it was clear from the opening round that Pacquiao would have no trouble landing punches up the middle even though he gave away eight kilos and 10 centimeters in height.

Margarito advanced forward throughout the fight while trying to land big punches to the head. But he paid a terrible price.

“There was no way I was going to quit,” he said. “I’m a Mexican, we fight until the end.”

That end finally came when the bell sounded to mercifully end the 12th round, though the outcome was never in doubt since the middle rounds. Pacquiao seemed to let up in the final round, giving up a possible knockout to take compassion on his opponent.

Back home, where even crime stops when Pacquiao fights, the end touched off celebrations across the country. President Benigno Aquino III, who is attending the APEC summit in Japan, rushed back to his hotel room to catch the bout and sent his congratulations.

Pacquiao’s latest win earned him at least $15 million, some of which he spent to charter a 757 to Dallas to bring in some 200 members of his rapidly growing entourage.

Pacquiao vs Margarito: a mercy beating

In the late rounds, it was obvious that the fight had to be stopped.  Though Antonio Margarito had the will to continue the fight but it certainly did him no good.  With Margarito having a swollen right eye, his chance for the title was slowly slipping away and he wouldn't be able to much more see Pacquiao's blinding hand speed.  The referee could have stopped the fight, but we can't just blame him, for this is boxing and this normally happens in a fight.

However, Manny Pacquiao didn't take it as a huge advantage, instead he gave Margarito a mercy beating.  As what you've seen on the fight, Manny Pacquiao was watching at the referee at some time asking if the fight would still continue showing concern on Margarito's swollen eye.  Pacquiao was even interviewed about the situation after the fight and he simply said "Boxing is not about killing each other in the ring, its about entertaining people."  The humble Filipino amazed everyone.  When he could have stopped Margarito in the 10th round when the Mexican started to wobble getting tagged by Pacquiao's punch.  Yet the pound-for-pound king didn't seize the opportunity of a knockout.

Margarito had a huge cut under his eye that he suffered in round four which gave the "Tijuana Tornado" a problem every time Pacquiao attacks.  This indicates that Manny Pacquiao's punches is with strong power.  However the Mexican slugger did well in the six round where he gave shots to the body of Manny.  Pacquiao even told the media on his post fight interview that he was hurt by those body shot.  But the Filipino find a way of taking the fight even on that round and countered back punches to Margarito.

With Manny Pacquiao winning all of the rounds from the first to the twelfth, having a score 10-9 in every round against the Mexican slugger Antonio Margarit, the Filipino boxing icon has once again made the Filipino people proud, as he is crowned as the new WBC light middelweight champion.

Winning his 13 consecutive fight since his last lost against Eric Morales way back on 2005.   Manny Pacquiao adds another achievement to his boxing career, wining eight world boxing division championship and the only boxer to do so.

Manny Pacquiao dominated the fight.  Despite his disadvantage of being shorter, Manny's quickness and skills made the fight easy for him.  Cutting Antonio Margarito's lower right eye in round four, Pacquiao also went toe-to-toe with Margarito, making the fight exciting.  As the rounds past, Margarito's eye become more swollen making it a disadvantage for the Mexican warrior.

Pacquiao remained unstoppable and continued to punch from every angle till the late rounds, where Manny looked at the referee asking him to stop the fight because Margarito's eye was getting worst.  The pound-for-pound king showed a mercy to Margarito on the last round but still continues to entertain the crowd.  Margarito fought bravely and manage to finish the fight.

Coach Freddie Roach, Alex Ariza and the rest Team Pacquiao did a great job in guiding Manny to the fight.  Despite Pacquiao's obligations as a politician and distractions for being a superstar, team Pacquiao still managed to make Pacquiao in his top shape.

To Manny's greatness, we are all witnesses.  Congratulations to Congressman Emmanuel "Manny" Pacquiao for another stellar victory.  He has nothing more to prove, still the reigning pound-for-pound king not just in boxing but also to the Filipino people.

Pacquiao wins 8th World Title

The fighting pride of the Philippines and number one pound-for-pound boxer Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao has won his eighth world title belt.  Manny Pacquiao out-box the "Tijuana Tornado" Antonio Margarito, as Manny wins via Unanimous Decision over the Mexican boxer.

Manny Pacquiao disfigured Antonio Margarito's face in the early rounds and at the fourth round Margarito's right eye begun to bruise as he suffered a cut from Manny Pacquiao's continuous attacks.  Pacquiao also made the fight interesting by letting the Mexican attack.

The "Tijuana Tornado" Antonio Margarito weighed 150lbs while the Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao weighed very short for the 150lbs catch-weight, weighing only a mere 144.6 pounds.

Cotto and Clottey gave insights for Pacquiao vs Margarito fight

Two of the boxers who have fought both Antonio Margarito and Manny Pacquiao gave there insights for the upcoming November 13, 2010 fight,  Miguel Cotto from Puerto Rico and Joshua Clottey from Ghana.

The two fighters had their share of experience in the ring and both of them failed.  Margarito beat up Cotto and Clottey and so did Manny Pacquiao.  When both fighters were interviewed, this is what they had said.

“Manny is a very strong fighter,” said Cotto.  Miguel Cotto suffered TKO loss to Pacquiao and Margarito.

“If Margarito uses his head, and if he respects Pacquiao’s power, he has a chance,” shared Clottey, “But if he believes he’s so much bigger and stronger than Manny Pacquiao, he could wind up on the floor,” added the Ghanaian warrior.

Yahoo sports analyst Kevin Iole also shared his thoughts on the upcoming bout to be held at the Dallas Cowboys stadium in Texas, Arlington.  

"The simple equation in the fight is Pacquiao’s overwhelming advantage in speed compared to Margarito’s massive size advantage. Margarito is a volume puncher who loves to go to the body and a hard body attack is one of the best ways to combat speed. Hit a guy in the rib cage enough and it’s not long before he slows appreciably.  Margarito is notorious for having a strong chin and relentlessly stalking his opponent, but he is extraordinarily slow and throws wide punches. He’ll be vulnerable to Pacquiao’s lightning fast hands unless he doubles his jab, uses it frequently and shortens his other punches," said Kevin.

Margarito will be the next Mexican Champion?

On last day's press conference, the Mexican fighter Antonio Margarito guaranteed a victory on the November 13 (14 in the Philippines) fight against the pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao.  The "Tijuana Tornado" Antonio Margarito addressed to Dr. Jose Sulaiman (World Boxing Council's President) that he will be the new Mexican champion, "I want to tell Mr. Sulaiman that there will be a new Mexican champion on Nov. 13,” said Margarito.

The 79-year-old Sulaiman apparently pricked Margarito’s ego when he noted that Pacquiao was responsible for 12 of the Filipinos’ 24 victories over Mexicans in 61 previous WBC title duels.  News on The Inquirer Sports.

With just two days left for the big fight, Antonio Margarito swears to give the world a shock and an upset for all the "Pacman" fans, as he fights for redemption, to clear his name and involvement to the hand wrap controversy.

Margarito: "I'm knocking out Pacquiao"

On Wednesday's final press conference between the bout of Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao and Antonio Margarito, the "Tijuana Tornado" vowed to bring the best in him and told the media,"I'm knocking out Pacquiao," a very strong line coming from the Mexican.

Margarito is route for his redemption while Pacquiao is marking down history placing another title to his achievement.  The 5-11 Mexican has the reach and the height advantage while the Filipino boxing phenomenon  has his speed as his advantage.

With the Dallas Stadium all set in Texas, Arlington, thousands of people to witness live and over a million viewers around the world will be watching as both fighter aim for the vacant world light-middleweight championship.

Pacquiao gave of his words saying, "I believe I can give a good fight," swearing to the people that it will be an exciting fight.  “He’s doing his best in training and I’m doing my best. Margarito is a very aggressive fighter and that’s what I want," added the 31 year old pound for pound champion.

Margarito stated that it will be an upset for the "Pacman" fans and he believing that this victory can clear his name from his involvement from the hand-wrap controversy prior to his Mosley bout.  “I think they are getting very nervous about the whole fight. As it gets closer they see my size and they see me, and think ‘What have we gotten ourselves into?’” said Margarito.

Margarito struggling to make the weight?

As the battle for the vacant world light-middleweight championship approaching to its near, many reports are telling that the "Tijuana Tornado" is finding it hard to make the catch-weight.  

Alex Ariza, Pacquiao's conditioning trainer said on an interview with Manila Standard that prior to todays press-con he saw a devastated Margarito, "When I saw Margarito today when he did an interview, he look emaciated. He looked gaunt. It looked like he came from a run at 8 o’clock at night. This makes no sense to me."

Ariza was having his looks on Margarito trying to figure out his condition, "Margarito clearly is killing himself to make the weight, so now I’m even more confident that Manny is not going to have much of a problem,” said Ariza.

On November 13 (14 in the Philippines) Pacquiao and Margarito will battle it out for the 154lb crown, with a catch weight of 150lbs.  Penalty is about $500,000 with every excess pound during the official weigh-in.

Ariza added that “I would never bring my fighter within six or seven pounds four weeks away from a fight. I mean, that’s just absolute idiotic.”

Roach: "We'll make him (Margarito) quit the fight"

On a video interview with Freddie Roach from Yahoo - ringside with Manny (IN DEPTH with Graham Bensinger), the hall of fame trainer for-told all his insights on Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao's upcoming fight against the "Tijuana Tornado" Antonio Margarito on November 13 (14 in the Philippines) at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Texas, Arlington.

Roach: Margarito stands no chance against Pacquiao

The well-known trainer and four time "trainer of the year" Freddie Roach stated that Antonio Margarito has "zero chance" against his ward, pound-for-pound king Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao.  As always, Roach gave his prediction on Manny's upcoming battle, stating that Margarito will not go more than eighth round against Pacquiao.

“The tornado will be downsized to a tropical storm,” said Roach to the Asian Journal. “There’s no way this is going to past eight rounds.”  

Despite all issues involving the camp of Manny Pacquiao being busy, the hall of fame trainer remains confident.  "Speed is the key," said Roach, stating that this is the biggest advantage for Manny to the fight, "Flat out, there’s no way he (Margarito) can match that," added Roach.

Pacquiao vs Margarito - Trash talk continues

Both camp has been hitting at each other since day one until this day, they continue to talk trash at each other.  If you had been following episodes on Pacquiao-Margarito HBO 24/7 you would witness a war of words from every camp.

On a video from Fanhouse.com, they continue to mock at each other.  Freddie Roach has been criticizing Margarito's hand-wraps, while the Mexican's also hit on Freddie.

Pacquiao-Margarito open media workout in Texas

Manny Pacquiao and Antonio Margarito held open workouts in Texas, at the Gaylord Texan Resort in Grapevine.  As both fighters get ready for their big fight on November 13, Saturday (Sunday in the Philippines), each boxers showcase their skills to the public.

Here are some quotes from Manny Pacquiao's interview,"I come from nothing. I have humility and I don't carry myself like anything else. I don't see it as a Filipino - Mexican or American event. I see it as a boxing event. I don't know if I'll do it (referring to Margarito's punches) but it's part of the game."

"We are in a vacation period (referring to his political duties) and about 54 congressmen are here for the fight.  The lively hood of the people of the Philippines is important. There are few jobs, educational opportunities and I want to campaign against human trafficking."  

"His (Margarito) advantages are size and strength. Mine is my speed.  I want to stay at 147 - 148 lbs. Any heavier I'll be slow.  I like being back in Texas. Cowboys Stadium and the fans here are great.  My goal is to give back a great performance to the fans Saturday night.  I can do boxing and much more."

On the other part, Margarito quoted on an interview, "Training is the key for winning this fight. I couldn't feel any better than I do. I'm very confident in my preparation. I'm very motivated for the fight. I don't think of any problems." 

"He's faster (referring to Pacquiao's advantage) but we are prepared. This is my best preparation ever for a fight.  No problem making weight. I have never had a problem in past.  I have the power to take Manny out.  I feel like I have been training forever with Robert Garcia but this is our first fight together."

And this is what Robert Garcia (Margarito's trainer) said on the interview;

"The main thing for us is fighting a lefty.  We took 9 weeks to train correctly and we are ready.  We had no trouble making weight.  The weight and weight issue are to our advantage.  We'll be stronger."

"Clottey (Pacquiao's last foe) didn't try. After first few rounds Manny in for a long night with us.  The jab will be a weapon for us.  We expect Manny to come out full blast for the first three rounds.  I want the world to know Antonio Margarito beat the best fighter in the world and not the politician."

Pacquiao arrives in Dallas

Earlier today, the pound-for-pound king and seven time world champion Manny Pacquiao had landed at Love Field in Dallas, Texas.  Together with his entourage, team Pacquiao arrived on a Boeing 757 and proceeded to the Gaylord Texan Hotel, located in Grapevine, Texas.

The hotel is own by Jerry Jones, co-owner of the Dallas Cowboys and the 1.2 billion Dallas Cowboy Stadium in Arlington, Texas.  The Filipino champion is set to fight the Mexican, "Tijuana Tornado" Antonio Margarito on November 13, Saturday, (Sunday in the Philippines).  Pacquiao is aiming for his eighth world championship belt and 13th straight win, while Margarito is in the fight for redemption and plans to bring a huge upset in boxing history.

Coach Freddie Roach: “I am betting my house on Manny”

The Hall of fame trainer and four time "trainer of the year" Freddie Roach remains confident and believes  that Pacquiao will win on the November 13 (14 here in the Philippines) fight against Mexican "Tijuana Tornado" Antonio Margarito, saying that "I am betting my house on Manny."

Manny Pacquiao will be aiming for his 13th straight win and for his eighth division world title.  Pacquiao has won seven division and the only boxer to do so.  This fight will be history in the making.  

“And had I married and had children, I will also bet them that Manny will beat (Antonio) Margarito and etch his name in boxing history as the first man to win an eighth title in as many divisions,”  Roach added.

Regarding with the training camp issues of Manny Pacquiao that he was to busy for training and remain not a hundred percent, this is what Roach had said , "After our stint here following Manny’s so-so performance in Manila and Baguio confirmed my earlier belief that he is still the same man I used to know, the best boxer in the world.”  

“I thought that politics added for the numerous distractions that normally accompanied his training in his previous fights. It did, but after I saw him dedicate his best in training here, I believe Manny hasn’t changed,” Roach added, referring to Pacquiao's political duties as a Congressman in the Philippines.  “And I pity Margarito for he is coming direct into a trap. He’ll be walking into a storm that will destroy him comes fight night Saturday next week,” said Roach.

A two part documentary was made by a famous international news channel, CBS, that features US President Barack Obama and pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao.  The first half of the show featured President Obama followed by the interview with Filipino boxing champion, Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao.
